All eyes were on Tiger Woods on Wednesday at the Frys.com Open, but his new caddie, veteran looper Joe LaCava, was also under the microscope in his first outing with his new boss.

Following his pro-am round, Woods was asked about the relationship and if he thought there would be a learning curve for the new tandem.

“Joe is one of the best caddies out here. I’ve known Joey since I was an amateur. Playing with Freddie (Couples) in Masters practice rounds,” Woods said. “I liked the way he worked. It was one of those decisions where my gut said it was the right thing to do.”

LaCava, who worked briefly for Dustin Johnson after nearly two decades on Couples’ bag, replaces Steve Williams who split with the former world No. 1 earlier this summer and is now working for Adam Scott.

As expected, Wednesday was a familiarization course for both player and caddie on a golf course neither is very familiar with.

“He basically said, ‘Let me know what you want on each hole,’” Woods said.
