Mickelson I wont count myself out

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Phil Mickelson said he didn’t take advantage of scoring opportunities on the back nine Saturday at the Masters, but . . .

“I’m going to be quite a few back, but a lot can happen on Sunday,” Mickelson said. “I won’t count myself out.”

Mickelson was seven shots back when he signed his scorecard, six back when he left the media bullpen behind the 18th green.

Jackie Burke owns the largest come-from-behind victory in Masters’ history, coming from eight shots back to win in 1956.

Though Mickelson said he thought the back nine was there for the taking, he struggled on the greens. He couldn’t get up and down with an “easy chip” at the 11th and three putted the 13th.

“I’ve struggled getting the right reads and the right greens and historically have read these greens very well,” Mickelson said.
