GULLANE, Scotland – Well, this much is certain: There won’t be a repeat of 2002.
The forecast for Saturday’s third round of the British Open calls for a sunny afternoon with wind gusts up to 15 mph and a high temperature around 70 degrees.
That’s a far cry from 11 years ago, of course, when an unexpected storm rolled into Muirfield and brought wind chills into the 30s with a stinging, sideways rain. Umbrellas were rendered useless in the wind.
On Saturday, the weather forecast for Muirfield is so good, it simply reads: “Bright with sunny spells.”
The outlook for Sunday also looks promising: a bright, dry afternoon with sun, a high temperature around 70 degrees, and wind gusts up to 15 mph.
