NORTON, Mass. – While the Deutsche Bank Championship has always benefited the Tiger Woods Foundation, this is the first year that the organization is also operating the tournament.
That doesn’t mean, though, that he felt any greater urgency to return to the PGA Tour’s second FedEx Cup Playoff event so quickly after injuring his back at last week’s Barclays.

“As far as getting back here, I want to get back here,” he explained. “This is one of my favorite tournaments. The crowds are incredible here, great sporting town. And a golf course I like. I’ve played well here over the years.”
Woods said that his foundation taking over operation of the tournament doesn’t affect his role.
“My responsibilities don’t change,” he said. “They’re the same. We were the beneficiary of the charities and then the dollars that were raised here. So that hasn’t changed, just because my staff is running it, doesn’t mean that I have to do anymore obligatory things.”
