Playoff pressure starts to mount

Thumbnail

For those who think Tiger Woods is under pressure to win this week’s Buick Open, considering the precarious plight of a few of his lodge brothers the world No. 1 doesn’t know for pressure.

Because field sizes for the four Playoff events have been trimmed there’s added pressure for those outside the top 125, the cutoff for the first post-season event in New Jersey. And, counting this week’s Buick, there are just three events remaining to secure a playoff spot.

Among those on the ledge right now are Greg Chalmers (122nd on the FedEx Cup points list and tied for fifth at Warwick Hills), Jimmy Walker (158th, T-5) and Troy Matteson (134th, T-11).

Woods, by comparison, is second on the points list, worth more than some G8 nations and married to a former Swedish model. That he’s 0-for-3 in the majors this year is probably not keeping him awake at night.
