Reading the wind

AUGUSTA, Ga. – As the winds pick up at Augusta National an enlightening conversation with Jim Furyk earlier in the week seems apropos.

“When No. 1 is into the wind it helps the mid-length players,” said Furyk, explaining that a hurting wind at the first makes the longer par 4s play downwind.

That’s good news for the mid-length crops, Thursday’s wind is slightly into and from the left at the first.
