Players are already up and at ‘em in the final round of the John Deere Classic. With a threat of afternoon thunderstorms that may arrive around 3 p.m. officials sent the field off split tees. The final group teed off at 10:50 a.m. ET.

Steve Stricker, entering the day with a six shot lead, wasted no time chasing the 72-hole scoring record. The Wisconsin native birdied the first two holes of the final round as he hunts a final round 65. Stricker set the new 54-hole scoring record yesterday with his 25-under 188, the best 54-hole score in PGA Tour history.

Stricker already holds the 72-hole scoring record at 33-under which he recorded at the 2009 Bob Hope Classic, a five-round tournament. Ernie Els holds the lowest 72-hole score in a four-round event, 31-under carded at the 2003 Mercedes Championship.
