Ricky knows best

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – An analyst friend of mine questioned Ricky Barnes’ decision to mark his ball, as best he could in knee-high hay, late Sunday when darkness suspended final-round play at the U.S. Open.

“Why not hack that shot (Barnes’ second at the par-4 second hole) out instead of sleeping on it?” our friend asked.

Early Monday he got his answer. Barnes carved his ball out of the fescue and between two trees to the putting surface and two-putted for a gutsy par.

On this one, Ricky knew best.
