Rosie Jones has been named the 2011 U.S. Solheim Cup captain, the LPGA is announcing today.
Jones, a 13-time LPGA winner, will lead the Americans against Europe when the biennial matches are next staged in 2011 at Killeen Castle in Ireland. The Americans are 8-3 in the matches but Europe has claimed all three of its victories on European soil.
Jones has played on seven U.S. Solheim Cup teams, accumulating 12 points with a 3-3-1 singles record. Jones’ choice is a bit of an upset in that Meg Mallon and Juli Inkster were believed to be the frontrunners to lead the next U.S. Team.
