Snedeker on the sidelines

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The inaugural McGladrey Classic drew a solid field for a Fall Series stop on the heels of last week’s Ryder Cup primarily on the depth of the area’s PGA Tour residents.

Among the Sea Island regulars are host Davis Love III, Zach Johnson, Jonathan Byrd and the island’s newest transplant Matt Kuchar. But there is one member of the “Sea Island mafia” – as the group is sometimes called – not in this week’s field.

Brandt Snedeker owns a condo about a 3 minute drive from the Seaside Course and is a regular on the scenic practice tee, but has been on the DL since undergoing voluntary surgery on Sept. 17 at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., for an ailing left hip.

Snedeker had been bothered by the hip throughout the playoffs and could have continued to play but opted for surgery.
