The winds of change

Thumbnail

CHASKA, Minn. – A wind-direction change has seemed to have drastically changed the look of Hazeltine National.

After three days of unrelenting breezes from the southwest, the front that moved through early Sunday switched to the north, causing problems for leader Tiger Woods at the par-4 fifth hole. The world No. 1 missed the green from 187 yards but scrambled for par.

Suddenly a 10-under winning total, Rich Beem’s tally in 2002 at Hazeltine, is looking out of reach.
