SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – The United States left little doubt as to which side was winning this Walker Cup.
Needing only 3 1/2 points to reclaim the cup, the Americans reeled off four wins in the first five matches Sunday afternoon en route to a dominating, drama-free 17-9 victory over Great Britain and Ireland at National Golf Links.
It was the Americans’ fourth win in the last five Walker Cups, and their most lopsided victory since 1997 (18-6).

The U.S. received huge contributions from lead-off man Bobby Wyatt, whose 4-and-3 victory in singles improved his record this week to 3-0-1, the best mark of any player at the two-day event.
Justin Thomas, despite being slowed by a back injury, moved to 2-0-1 with a 6-and-4 victory, and the two mid-ams, Nathan Smith and Todd White, each won their match to clinch the victory for the Americans.
The U.S. improved to 35-8-1 in the biennial event, which in 2015 will be staged at Royal Lytham and St. Annes.
