Not even a singles comeback could help lift Great Britain & Ireland to a breakthrough victory at the PGA Cup.
Trailing by five points heading into the final day at Slaley Hall in Hexham, England, Team GB&I won seven of the 10 singles matches to force a 13-all tie. Because the Americans were the defending champions, they retain the cup.
England’s Dan Greenwood holed a 5-foot par putt on the final hole Sunday to secure only the fourth draw in the event’s history.
The Americans, who have not lost since 2005, boast a 17-5-4 edge in the biennial competition.
Originated in 1973, the PGA Cup is a Ryder Cup-style event pitting PGA club professionals from the U.S. and Great Britain & Ireland.
