Weathermen

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – We walked a practice round this morning with a group of Pebble Beach regulars and were not surprised that there was more chatter about the weather than at Al Roker’s dinner table.

The June gloom that blanketed the seaside links for two days appears as if it’s going to be a staple for this year’s championship. Asked what he thought of the cool conditions, defending Open champion Lucas Glover deadpanned, “It never gets above 80 (degrees) here. Never.”

“You want sunshine, wait until January,” Davis Love III said.

It may be June, but “Crosby weather” seems to be a yearlong occurrence. One longtime caddie was asked the difference between winter and summer on the shores of Carmel Bay? “Rain (in the winter),” he said.
