Web.com Finals standings: Immelman shares first

Thumbnail

With two events completed in the inaugural Web.com Tour Finals and two more still to go, Trevor Immelman remains atop the overall Finals money list alongside Andrew Svoboda, who captured the Chiquita Classic Sunday in a playoff.

Both Svoboda and Immelman, who won the first Finals event at the Hotel Fitness Championship, earned $180,000 for their respective victories and together hold a $72,000 advantage over Patrick Cantlay and Will MacKenzie. While Svoboda entered the Finals assured of a Tour card thanks to his finish at No. 25 on the season-long Web.com Tour money list, each of the other three players in the top four entered the Finals with their status in doubt and have effectively earned PGA Tour cards for the 2013-14 season thanks to a single week of strong play.

Notable names currently in position to earn cards for next season on the PGA Tour include John Peterson, who has notched top-five finishes in each of the first two Finals events, Bud Cauley, Ryo Ishikawa and Ricky Barnes. Former Ryder Cuppers Vaughn Taylor (No. 17) and Sean O’Hair (No. 19) are both inside the top 25 after two events, though their status for the 2013-14 campaign is far from secure. Bhavik Patel currently clings to the No. 25 spot with $15,875 in earnings, only $375 ahead of Scott Dunlap.

Included among the players on the outside looking in after two events are former PGA Tour winners Arron Oberholser, D.J. Trahan, Tim Petrovic, Joe Durant and Jhonattan Vegas. Others notables still in need of a strong performance are Robert Karlsson, Len Mattiace, Chad Campbell and former U.S. Amateur champions Colt Knost and Kelly Kraft.

A series of four events, the Web.com Tour Finals will award 50 PGA Tour cards for the 2013-14 season based on the overall money list, though 25 of the 50 cards are already secured by the top 25 Web.com Tour finishers from the 2013 regular season. The remaining 25 cards remain up for grabs among a field comprised of the top 75 finishers on the 2013 Web.com Tour money list as well as Nos. 126-200 on the 2013 FedEx Cup points list.

Priority rankings among the 50 card earners will be determined based on the overall Finals money list, meaning those that finish higher on the list are likely to gain entry into more PGA Tour events next season than those who earn cards but finish with less Finals earnings. The top money-earner from the four-event series will become fully exempt for next season and earn a berth into the 2014 Players Championship, a status currently shared by Michael Putnam who finished No. 1 overall on the 2013 Web.com Tour money list.

The Web.com Tour Finals continue this week with the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in Columbus, Ohio, and will conclude Sept. 26-29 at the Web.com Tour Championship on the Dye’s Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
