LAKE FOREST, Ill. – After one round at the BMW Championship, Tiger Woods is very much in contention – though you might not know it based on his comments.

“I’m not exactly real happy,” Woods explained after carding a 5-under 66 at Conway Farms Golf Club. “I played well, I just didn’t get much out of it.”

The issue for Woods Thursday was two-fold: the current world No. 1 missed three putts inside 6 feet coming down the stretch, and was unable to birdie any of the par-5s at Conway Farms.

“I certainly wasted a lot of shots out there today,” explained Woods, who sits three shots behind leader Brandt Snedeker.

Despite the shots left on the course, Woods was able to make a move up the leaderboard thanks to accurate iron approaches that yielded seven total birdies in his opening round. A turbulent inward nine included just two pars, as the current world No. 1 bounced back from a pair of three-putts on Nos. 4 and 6 with birdies on holes 5 and 7, closing his round with his longest made putt of the day, a 23-footer on No. 9 for his final birdie of the round.
