Y.E. Yang does not get to see the lights like he did earlier in his career.
Sitting T-3 after three rounds of the Hong Kong Open, Yang talked about his mundane weekly routine.
‘I think that most of the tournaments that I go to nowadays are airport, hotel, golf courses, and back and forth,’ said the ’09 PGA champion. ‘I’m not sure if it’s because I’m getting older or if it’s because the schedule has been more demanding.’
As the only Asian-born men’s major winner, Yang has a lot of obligations which keep the tourism to a minimum. It wasn’t always this way, however.
‘When I last came here about 10 years ago, I remember I had time to go to Stanley, a huge big seafood restaurant called Jumbo, went there ... did some shopping. Spent a lot less money than I do right now, but I got around,’ he said.
If Yang can close a two-shot gap with Alvaro Quiros on Sunday, the Korean may fit in a little shopping.
‘Fortunately for me, I’m staying this week in the shopping mall, so I do get to eye-shop a little bit. I haven’t bought anything yet,’ he said. ‘Hopefully I can after the weekend.’
