Billy Horschel led most of his match with Rory McIlroy on Day 3 at Harding Park, but couldn’t close the deal and ultimately lost in a playoff after the No. 1 player in the world made three straight birdies on holes 16-18.
He handled the tough loss with a lot of class though, firing off this tweet congratulating his fellow competitor immediately afterward.
Was a great battle with @McIlroyRory today. That's why I play golf! Love competing against the best! Congrats again Rory!

Of course, some people didn’t see the match as a “great battle,” and decided to let Horschel know that they thought he choked down the stretch on social media, and Billy Ho took exception.
And for all you haters saying I choked... I didn't choke. You have no clue what you are talking about!!

Spoken like a true gentleman. A gentleman with $10 million dollars in his pocket. That should ease the pain of not making the Round of 16.
