Ryder Cup history might look very different if not for Rory McIlroy’s famed ride in a police car.
McIlroy nearly missed his tee time on Sunday at the 2012 Ryder Cup, mixing up his time zones and making it with just three minutes to spare thanks to a police escort.
McIlroy went on to defeat Keegan Bradley in their singles match as the Europeans overcame a huge deficit at Medinah to win the biennial event. Nearly five years later he got another chance to thank that police car in person.

McIlroy made some time while in town for the Arnold Palmer Invitational to go visit the car, which was auctioned off in 2013 and now sits in Ian Poulter’s garage, just a short trip from Bay Hill.
