Ernie Els on Sunday at TPC Sawgrass extended his run of crappy first holes this year - quite literally.
After Els made his first putt for a bogey-5 on the first hole and as he was learning down to pick up his ball, a bird flew by and defecated on the four-time major champion.
The Big Easy did have a good laugh about it, and so did his playing partner Justin Rose.
“Yeah, so the birdie pooped on him,” Rose said after the round. “I was standing right next to him and it missed me and it got him. So they say it’s good luck if the birdie manages to sort of land on you. And I guess it was good luck for me, not Ernie today, I’m afraid.
“But, yeah, that was kind of a humorous moment to start the day, had us both giggling, had me kind of chuckling under my breath trying to make a 2-footer for par. But obviously it’s always a delight to play with Ernie, he’s a legend in the game and fun to be around.”
