Tracking Tigers US Open starts

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – When Tiger Woods won the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach 10 years ago, he opened with a 6-under-par 65.

That’s also his lowest score in a U.S. Open.

In his U.S. Open victory at Bethpage Black in 2002, Woods opened with a 67. That’s the last time he started a U.S. Open with a score in the 60s. When he won this championship at Torrey Pines two years ago, he opened with a 72.

Woods was in first place after the first round of his first two U.S. Open victories. He was 20th after the first round of his last U.S. Open title.
