RICHMOND, Va. -- Chad Collins shot a 5-under 67 on Sunday to win the Henrico County Open. Collins finished at 21-under-par 267 for his first career victory on the Nationwide Tour.

Tom Scherrer carded a 69 to finish alone in second place at 19-under-par 269. Dicky Pride fired a 62 to join Jon Mills, Ken Duke and Bill Lunde in a tie for third place at 18-under-par 270.

Collins, who shared the 54-hole lead with Scherrer and Camilo Villegas, vaulted out of the gate at The Dominion Club with a birdie at the par-4 first after his second shot rolled within three feet of the hole.

He converted another short birdie try at the par-5 second and landed his tee shot inside 5 feet for a birdie at the par-3 third. At the par-4 fourth, Collins played his third shot to 4 feet and ran home the birdie putt to make it four in a row.

Collins kept on rolling and hit his second shot to 9 feet for a birdie at the par-4 sixth to surge ahead of the field at 21 under.

He cooled down around the turn and parred his next 10 holes before a bogey at the par-3 17th dropped him back to 20 under. Collins responded at the following hole and avoided disaster at the par-5 18th when his second shot cleared the water in front of the green by a hair.

Collins hit his third shot within 12 feet and drained the birdie try to secure his maiden title.

‘I’m just really pleased,’ said Collins. ‘I didn’t have a whole lot of expectations coming into the week, but all in all I was able to hang in there and I played pretty solid.’

Scherrer, who was seeking his third victory on the Nationwide Tour, had four birdies and a bogey over his first 12 holes, but a double bogey at the par-4 13th hurt his chances.

The 34-year-old countered with a birdie at the 15th and dropped his third shot inside 5 feet for a birdie at the 18th to take second place alone.

Villegas struggled with the putter on Sunday and managed a 1-under 71 to finish alone in seventh place at 17-under-par 271. Matt Weibring was one shot further back at 16-under-par 272.

Former U.S. Amateur champion Ricky Barnes shot a 65 to share ninth place with Kris Cox, Fran Quinn and Chris Wollmann at 15-under-par 273.
