Lorenzo-Vera Leads in China

BEIJING, China -- Frances Michael Lorenzo-Vera shot a 3-under 69 on Friday to take a one-stroke lead over Englands Richard Finch and Irelands Damien McGrane after the second round of the China Open.

The 23-year-old Lorenzo-Vera, in his first season on the European tour, had an 8-under 136 total on the Beijing CBD International Golf Club course.

Im super happy, Lorenzo-Vera said. Yesterday it was quite hard for me to get to sleep as I was thinking too much about what might happen. I might always look super relaxed but the hands are always shaking. It took nine holes to get relaxed. Normally it takes three holes but not today. I suppose the weekend will be harder.

McGrane chipped in for an eagle on the 13th hole.

I have played a lot of good golf this season and it is a long year, said McGrane, who turned 37 on Sunday. I hope to continue and I am still waiting for an opportunity to win my first tournament. I am playing well and am not losing heart. There are swings and roundabouts on the golf course from week to week but I havent lost my confidence from the start of the year and that is key for me.

Austrias Markus Brier, the winner last year at Shanghai Silport, was 4 under after a 69 in the event sanctioned by the European and Asian tours and the China Golf Association.
