The inaugural Xerox Classic begins this week at Irondequoit Country Club in Rochester, New York (Thurs. 1:30 PM/ET on TGC). Xerox Corporation will be the title sponsor of this event for the first four years of the tournament.
Irondequoit Country Club was designed by legendary architect Donald Ross and opened in 1916. The course has beautiful rolling hills and picturesque views. There are many huge trees and water hazards that come into play on several holes, with an assortment of bunkers strategically positioned throughout the course.
Rochester is the fourth city in the state of New York to host a Nationwide Tour event, joining Findley Lake and former host cities Buffalo and Hamilton. Rochester was also the site of four major championships -- two U.S. Opens and two PGA Championships.
Seven of the top 10 players on the money list are scheduled to compete this week. The leading money winner this year on the Nationwide Tour, Jason Gore, earned a battlefield promotion to the PGA Tour when he won his third event of the season two weeks ago at the Cox Classic.
Next week the Nationwide Tour moves to Ohio for their second straight new event, the Cleveland Open.
