Small Comes Up Big at Club Pro Championship

Mike Small, the University of Illinois golf coach, carded a final-round, 3-under 69 to win the PGA Club Professional Championship on Sunday. He finished at 1-over-par 289 and won by three over Travis Long at the Island Course at Kiawah Island.

‘It’s a great feeling to know that I could come here and withstand my emotions in the tournament,’ said Small, a runner-up by a stroke a year ago. ‘Like [2002 Champion] Barry Evans said, ‘Welcome to the club.’ It’s kind of nice to join those guys as a Champion.’

Small earned $67,000 for the victory.

Scott Spence (75) took third place at plus-5, followed by Darrell Kestner, who posted a 2-under 70. Kestner finished at 6-over-par 294. Ron Philo, Jr. shot a 3-over 75 and came in fifth at plus-7.
