Annika Sorenstam moved up to No. 2 in the world rankings for women’s golf following last weekend’s win in Hawaii, her first LPGA Tour title in 17 months.
The former No. 1 trails only current No. 1 Lorena Ochoa, who won’t make her season debut until next week.
Sorenstam, who entered last week’s tournament ranked fourth, trails Ochoa by 7.87 average points -- the same number that separates Sorenstam and the 253rd- ranked player.
In other words, she’s still a long way from possibly re-claiming the No. 1 spot.
Sorenstam’s move bumped Suzann Pettersen and Karrie Webb down one spot apiece to third and fourth. Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Ji-Yai Shin, Juli Inkster, Mi Hyun Kim and Se-Ri Pak rounded out the top 10.
Momoko Ueda, Jeong Jang, Morgan Pressel, Jee Young Lee, Stacy Prammanasudh, Brittany Lincicome, Ai Miyazato, Seon-Hwa Lee, Sakura Yokomine and Yuri Fudoh were 11-20.
