PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – In his first tournament since March’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, Davis Love III opened with an even-par 72 on Thursday at The Players Championship.

Love had been on the DL for over a month after injuring a rib muscle during the final round at Bay Hill while hitting a shot out of a fairway bunker. His even-par card, which was marred by a bogey at his last hole, wasn’t exactly what he expected but he was pleased to be back at work.

“I’m disappointed with the score because I played better than that, but I’m happy to be playing is the main thing,” Love said. “I probably could have played last week (at the Wells Fargo Championship) but I was making sure I was ready for this week.”

The Players is the U.S. Ryder Cup captain’s sixth event this year.
