ORLANDO, Fla. – Davis Love III withdrew from his first PGA Tour event since 2009 on Saturday, citing an ailing rib.

Although Love, who signed for a 2-over 74 and was even par for the week, told Tour officials at the Arnold Palmer Invitational the injury was to his back and neck, his manager with Crown Sports Management told GTC he hurt himself hitting from a buried lie in a fairway bunker on Day 3.

“He probably just needs some rest and he’ll be OK,” Crown Sport’s Mac Barnhardt said.

Love is scheduled to play next week’s Shell Houston Open but is not in the Masters’ field.
