AUGUSTA, Ga. – It appears Augusta National officials didn’t waste any time utilizing one of this year’s new hole locations, cutting the hole in the back right portion on the par-3 16th hole.

New to this year’s Masters were slight changes to putting surfaces at the eighth and 16th holes.

“It seems like there is a little more room on 16 on the front right and back right and it’s a little more flat,” Jason Dufner said.

Perhaps the day’s most intriguing hole location is at the par-5 second, which is 26 paces from the front edge but only about four paces from the back. Early on Thursday there has already been an eagle, by Padraig Harrington, and six birdies.
