Why mess with perfection at Harbour Town?

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. ' GTC isnt an architect, and we didnt stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but if the consensus from players and caddies at Harbour Town Golf Links is any indication, the tinkering officials did to the Low Country gem may have been ill-advised.

Since last years championship, officials have added 32 yards to No. 3, 36 yards to No. 16 and 20 yards to the iconic closing hole, all via extended or new tee boxes. The new teeing ground at the 18th may be the most dramatic, with a new area cut into Calibogue Sound left of the old teeing area.

Why are they messing with this course? Its a masterpiece, wondered one caddie.

Good question, considering the layout ranked among the top-10 PGA Tour courses in a player survey last year.

Why? asked one player as he teed off at 18.

Great question.
