Numbers don’t lie: Statistics from Day 1 at the Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Some Day 1 statistics to sink your teeth into:

• The par-4 first hole played the most difficult in the first round with a 4.379 scoring average. The 11th was second at 4.368 and the 18th hole was third at 4.295. Scoring average for the round was 73.368.

• Bo Van Pelt was the driving distance leader with a 294.50 yard average. Kyle Stanley and Alvaro Quiros tied for second at 293.50 yards.

• Six men hit 13 of 14 fairways: Francesco Molinari, Scott Stallings, Justin Rose, Bernhard Langer, John Senden and Larry Mize.

• Although Phil Mickelson shot 74, he had the fewest putts in Round 1 with 25. That’s an average of 1.39 putts per hole. Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods both had 29 putts.

• First-round leader Lee Westwood, Stewart Cink and Webb Simpson each hit 12 of 14 fairways to lead the pack.
