MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Robert MacIntyre withdrew before teeing off in the second round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship with a knee injury, according to the PGA Tour.
MacIntyre, who was playing for the first time since last month’s Open Championship, struggled on an oppressively hot day Thursday at TPC Southwind to a 12-over 82, his worst round on Tour. He had three double bogeys (Nos. 4, 15 and 18), a triple bogey (No. 6) and just one birdie (No. 16) on Day 1. He was last in the field by eight shots.
MacIntyre was scheduled to tee off at 12:55 p.m. ET alongside J.T. Poston, who will now play as a single.
The Scot didn’t specify which knee was injured and his withdrawal was likely compounded by a heat index that sored above 100 degrees on Day 1 at the playoff opener.
MacIntyre also has the luxury of being safely in next week’s field at the BMW Championship at 31st on the FedExCup points list. But his status for the Tour Championship, which includes the top 30 on the postseason points list, is in jeopardy with MacIntyre currently projected to slip to 36th on the list.
MacIntyre has advanced to the Tour Championship the previous two seasons.
