GLADSTONE, N.J. – The final of the Sybase Match Play Championship is set – Angela Stanford against Sun Young Yoo. Stanford proved too strong in extra holes for 20-year-old Amy Yang in the morning's semifinal, while Yoo continued her giant killing, knocking off Jiyai Shin after having already outing Cristie Kerr and Yani Tseng this week.
Conditions will not be as favorable this afternoon as we have seen for the first three days here in Gladstone, N.J. – it's overcast with a threat of a shower. The wind may pick up a little. My money is on Stanford but it should be a good battle and you'll be able to see it live on Golf Channel.
I have to give credit to the LPGA for switching the nines since the last time the tour played Hamilton Farm. The 18th is a great risk-reward finish and the 16th green is a lot closer to the clubhouse than the 7th, giving spectators a lot easier walk.
Speaking of spectators, we've had a lot more here than expected by tournament organizers. Free tickets tend to have that affect.
Finally, the tournament course at Hamilton Farm is not the only gem on property. The club boasts an 18 hole par-3 set at USGA standards. In fact, its the only USGA rated par-3 in the country I'm told. I have had the pleasure of playing it a few times this week and its really tough test but a thrill to play.
