AT&T picks up Byron Nelson, drops Tiger's event?

The PGA Tour announced Friday that AT&T will take over as the title sponsor of the Byron Nelson Championship in 2015, the year after the event's contract with current sponsor HP expires.
This will mark the third shift in title sponsors in the last eight years for the Dallas, Tex.-based event, and fifth change since 2000. Known as the EDS Byron Nelson Championship from 2003-2008, the tournament brought in HP as its new title sponsor when the company acquired EDS before the 2009 event.
The announcement means that AT&T's already large presence in the game of golf will continue to grow. The telecommunications company - which recently moved its company headquarters to Dallas - is a main corporate sponsor at The Masters in addition to serving as title sponsor for three other events, two on the PGA Tour and one on the Champions Tour.
Their future sponsorship role with the AT&T National, however, remains in doubt after Friday's announcement. Their contract as title sponsor of the event, which benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation, is set to expire in 2014, a year before their new agreement with the Byron Nelson Championship will begin.
