Big Break alum Walker given PGA Tour exemption

Big Break Ireland alum Andy Walker has been given an exemption into the Northern Trust Open, the tournament announced Monday. The 36-year-old Walker will make his first PGA Tour start at the event, which will be held at Riviera CC on Feb. 16-19.

“Playing the PGA Tour has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I look forward to competing against the game’s best next month at the Northern Trust Open,” Walker said in a release.

Walker attended Pepperdine University, helping lead the school to the 1997 NCAA Championship. Among Walker’s teammates was Jason Gore, who received an exemption into the Northern Trust Open on the heels of a grassroots social media campaign.

Originally named in honor of 1969 Northern Trust Open winner Charlie Sifford, the exemption is offered to a player representative of diversity in the game. Walker is the fourth recipient of the exemption. Vincent Johnson (2009), Joshua Wooding (2010) and Joseph Bramlett (2011) were the others to receive the exemption.
