Paula Creamer will be looking to find a spark in her game when she tees it up in Thursday’s start of the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic in Alabama.
“I feel like I’m kind of stale right now, stagnant with some things,” Creamer said.
Creamer said in a news conference Tuesday at Magnolia Grove’s The Crossing course that she’s working through swing changes she believes are adding power to her driver, but there’s frustration in knowing change can be a painfully slow process. She began making changes to her swing with the driver last year.
After a stomach malady and thumb surgery slowed Creamer’s progress over two seasons, she broke through to win the U.S. Women’s Open at Oakmont in the summer of 2010. That success looked like it might open a gate to more victories, but Creamer hasn’t won since. In six starts this season, she is looking for her first top-10 finish.
Creamer, 25, has nine LPGA titles, one in the last three-plus seasons.
“I'm definitely not satisfied with how I've played, that's for sure,” Creamer said. “It hasn't been what I expected. But I know, sometimes, when you do have changes, it's not going to [happen] right away.”
Mobile might offer the spark Creamer is looking for. She won the Mitchell Company LPGA Tournament of Champions on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in 2007. She won an AJGA event on the trail in ’02.
“I want to win so badly,” Creamer said. “I think I want it too badly, at times, and I get in my own way.”
