DJ fires 67, suddenly in mix for second BMW title

CARMEL, Ind. – Dustin Johnson already has more PGA Tour victories (6) than any other player in his 20s.

But he would love to pad his lead with a victory at the BMW Championship.

With a 5-under-par 67 on Saturday, Johnson got himself in contention, two shots off the lead at Crooked Stick. He also got himself into a stellar pairing. He will go off with Tiger Woods in Sunday’s final round (1:15 p.m. ET).

Johnson won the BMW two years ago at Cog Hill outside Chicago.

“I just hit it really solid, just hit my target all day long,” said Johnson, 28. “In all, it’s been a solid three days for me.”

Johnson is making a strong rebound from a rough start to the 2012 season. After missing nearly three months because of a back injury early in the spring, he won his second start back, the FedEx St. Jude Classic in June. It made him the first player since Woods to win in each of his first five seasons on the PGA Tour.

Announced as an American Ryder Cup captain's pick this week, Johnson is enjoying a strong playoff run. He tied for third in the first playoff event, The Barclays, and tied for fourth in the second, last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship.
