Organizers for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro announced the eight finalists in the contest to design the golf venue for the sport's return to the Games.

The eight firms chosen include a mix of blockbuster names in the sport and marquee designers.

Greg Norman, teaming with Lorena Ochoa, was among the groups chosen. The duo of Jack Nicklaus and Annika Sorenstam are also among the finalists. Gary Player Design was also selected.

Submissions from well-known course architects were selected, including Gil Hanse, Tom Doak's Renaissance Golf, Robert Trent Jones II, Hawtree Ltd. and Thomson-Perret Golf Course Architects.

The winner of the contest will be announced in early 2012 and awarded a $300,000 contract to design the course, situated near the Olympic village.
