NORTON, Mass. – GTC’s not sure if Brendan Steele believes in omens, but if so he may want to tactfully ask his wife, Anastassia, to stay home on Monday as he vies for his second PGA Tour title at TPC Boston.
Steele, who begins Monday’s final round at the Deutsche Bank Championship one stroke out of the lead held by Bubba Watson, has a rather dubious record when his wife travels with him to tournaments.
Anastassia Steele was not in San Antonio when the rookie won his first title and has not been in Boston this week as he’s pieced together rounds of 69-67-67 to move into the hunt.
And what of the PGA Championship, where he began the final round tied for the lead but faded to a closing 77?
“She showed up on Sunday,” he smiled widely. “But I didn’t even know she was there.”
