The LPGA’s battle for the Rolex No. 1 ranking resumes at the North Texas LPGA Shootout this week with No. 2 Stacy Lewis trying to gain back the top spot from Inbee Park.
Lewis can return to No. 1 with a top-five finish, depending on what Park does, according to LPGA projections.
Park and Lewis are the only players who can be No. 1 in next week’s release of the newest Rolex rankings.
“It’s cool to be No. 1, and nice to get to that point, but it’s not something I think about all the time,” Lewis said Wednesday in her pre-tournament news conference. “It’s a result of good play, of winning tournaments. That’s what I want to do every week, is win the tournament. If I have a chance to win going into Sunday, that’s what I want. That’s my goal every week. I mean, rankings do matter, but it’s not something you think about every hole or shot.”
Lewis goes to No. 1 if . . .
• She wins.
• She finishes solo second and Park finishes third or worse
• She finishes solo third and Park is sixth or worse.
• She finishes solo fourth and Park finishes 13th or worse.
• She finishes solo fifth and Park finishes 35th or worse.
Park remains No. 1 if . . .
• Lewis finishes sixth or worse.
• Park finishes solo second and Lewis does not win.
• Park finishes solo third or solo fourth and Lewis finishes third or worse.
• Park finishes solo fifth through solo 12 and Lewis finishes fourth or worse.
• Park finishes solo 13th through 34th and Lewis finishes fifth or worse.
