Sergio Garcia made a splash – literally – in the first round of the inaugural Thailand Golf Championship.
After a wayward shot at the par-3 eighth hole at Amata Spring Country Club, Garcia immediately hurled his 4-iron into the water hazard on the left.
The Spaniard shot 4-over 76 in the opening round to fall 16 shots behind leader Lee Westwood, whose career-best 60 leads the way. Garcia is tied for 100th place in the 130-player field.
Garcia, currently ranked No. 16 in the Official World Golf Ranking, finished T-11 last week in the Dubai World Championship in his first start after consecutive wins in Spain in October.
