Who is the mystery woman behind the Coates Golf Championship advertising campaign?

You might have noticed the stylish, artsy TV commercial promoting the LPGA’s new season opener in Ocala, Fla., hitting the airwaves this past week and wondered who the featured golfer is. She isn’t an LPGA pro. She isn’t a cover girl, either, but she has done some modeling work. She will make her LPGA debut at the Coates Golf Championship.

Meet Alexandria Jacobsen.

If you live in Ocala, or you pass nearby via I-75 or the Florida Turnpike, you’ve seen Jacobsen on billboards promoting the LPGA’s newest event. She’s a Symetra Tour pro who played as Alexandria Buelow until getting married two weeks ago.

A former standout at nearby Stetson University, Jacobsen will tee it up in her first LPGA event on a sponsor’s exemption as a sort of ambassador of Coates Golf, a brand new equipment and apparel company dedicated to women. She’s the first player the Ocala-based company has inked to an endorsement deal.

Jacobsen, 24, will also become the first player to use Coates Golf clubs in an LPGA event when she makes her tour debut at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club on Jan. 28. The company is designing and manufacturing everything from drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons and wedges, all specifically for women. They’re making everything but putters. They’re also designing women’s golf apparel and accessories.

For Jacobsen, the new year is unfolding like a dream.

“It’s awesome, and I couldn’t feel more blessed,” Jacobsen said. “It feels like a fresh start for me. I’m a newlywed with a new name, new equipment and new apparel to wear. I’m excited, and I feel good about my game.”

 

 

Jacobsen grew up in Palm City, Fla., where she was a two-time state champion at Martin County High. She won nine times while at Stetson. Life as a tour pro has been challenging, though. She struggled on the Symetra Tour a year ago and didn’t make it through the second stage of LPGA Q-School. In 48 starts as a pro on the Symetra Tour, her best finish is a tie for 14th, but she’s eager to take advantage of new opportunities.

“I had some mental battles last year, but I’ve been working hard in the gym and on my swing,” Jacobsen said.

Why did Coates Golf choose to align itself with Jacobsen? A start-up company, Coates is making an investment in the promise of a young player who could grow with them.

“We were looking for a woman in the world of professional golf who enjoys working on her game, is strong and exemplifies the athleticism of the sport,” said Mollie Coates, the company president. “The first time I met with Alexandria and listened to her talk about the game, I knew right away that she would represent Coates Golf well. She’s a strong, smart woman.”

Coates said her company will be looking to eventually add other players to endorsement deals and build “a tightly knit team of Coates golfers.”

In Jacobsen, Coates Golf gets a player comfortable in front of a camera. She did modeling work last year for Jofit, which makes golf, tennis and fitness apparel.

For Jacobsen, there will be some pressure representing Coates Golf on a very large stage in her LPGA debut, but she looks forward to the challenge.

“Of course, I’ll be nervous on the first tee,” Jacobsen said. “If I wasn’t, there would be something wrong. I’m excited, and I think it’s going to be the start of a good year.”
