Bernowski SGAs Amateur of the Month

Mark Bemowski has been named National Amateur of the Month for October by the Southern Golf Association.

Bemowski, 58, the first senior winner of the award in its two-year history, won on the strength of his triumph in the USGA Senior Amateur last month at Bel Air Country Club in Los Angeles.

The monthly award is chosen by the SGA’s 12-man selection panel of national golf officials, journalists and college coaches. Honorable mention went to Indiana U. senior Jeff Overton, who fired a 61 - second lowest competitive round in NCAA history - to take medalist honors in the Xavier Invitational by 11 strokes with a 24-under-par 192 total.

Bemowski, a corporate promotions rep from Mukwonago, Wis., won the Senior Am with a final match 4-and-3 romp over favored Greg Reynolds, who had ripped through his bracket with a series of lopsided victories. Bemowski made a convincing statement of his own by also winning his semifinal match 4-and-3.
