For someone who’s known for indulging on the course, it seemed plausible that world No. 5 Charley Hull’s impressive back nine 31 at the Amundi Evian Championship on Thursday was inspired by an ice cream cone.
Even the cameras caught it. And naturally, it being 2026, the moment “I think it was the ice cream” went viral amongst golf fans.
But the adage ‘Don’t always believe what you see on TV’ proved true.
“I didn’t eat the ice cream. My boyfriend got it for my caddie, so I held it for a minute when he was putting my club in the bag,” Hull admitted to reporters after carding an opening round 5-under 66.
Hull divulged that she does eat during tournaments, of course, but it’s mostly bars and bananas.
“I always eat every other hole,” she explained. “So I eat on the third, the fifth, and the seventh, and then just every hole in pretty much.”
Everyone deserves a mid-round ice cream cone...especially after that shot from Charley Hull 🍦😉

So if not a detour from her diet, what exactly triggered Hull’s impressive turnaround in France? She was 2 over through her first six holes before finishing the round birdie-birdie-par-eagle to put herself in the mix for her first career major.
“I kind of just believed in myself and just kind of relaxed out there and took my time and took advantage of the birdies,” the 30-year-old Hull said.
Hull, who is playing in her 11th event of the season, finished T-10 at the Chevron and T-2 at the U.S. Women’s Open before missing the cut at the Women’s PGA in the year’s first three majors.
She sits T-3, three back of Aki Iwai’s lead at 8 under. France’s Perrine Delacour is in solo second after 18 holes, two shots behind Iwai.
“Very lucky to be here — it’s almost like a little holiday,” Hull said of Evian Resort Golf Club.
