ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates – Despite the high-profile loss of the world’s top two players to the 36-hole cut on Friday the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship continued a dominating run this week.

For the seventh consecutive year the Abu Dhabi stop received more world ranking points than that week’s PGA Tour event. This week’s winner will earn 54 points compared to the Humana Challenge champion who will net 44 points.

This week’s field at Abu Dhabi Golf Club featured five of the top 20 players in the ranking while the Humana field included just two from the top 20, although the HSBC field is boosted by the likelihood of appearance fees for the game’s top players, including Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods who both missed the cut.

Last year the European Tour event topped the Farmers Insurance Open (58 points in the Middle East to 48 to the winner in Torrey Pines) and the last time the Tour stop edged Abu Dhabi in the ranking points race was in 2006.
