Tiger Woods’ decision to withdraw from the Safeway Open left many golf fans disappointed, but it was welcome news to Max Homa.
Homa, 25, was first alternate for the season-opening event prior to Woods’ withdrawal. He’s now in the field this week in Napa, Calif., and sent Woods a heartfelt after hearing the news:
Thanks Tigers. Next time we hang out, dinner's on me. Get back out here soon plz.

Sincerely,
Your biggest fan
Homa regained his PGA Tour card via the Web.com Tour last year, and begins the new season ranked No. 42 on the priority list reshuffle. He has two top-10 finishes in 36 career PGA Tour starts, with his best result a T-6 finish at the 2015 Sony Open in Hawaii.
Should Woods and Homa get together for a meal, it’s unlikely that they’ll discuss college sports: Woods notably sent to Stanford University, while Homa was an All-American for their Bay Area rival, the University of California-Berkeley.
