Golf world pays respect to the King on social media

Thumbnail

Arnold Palmer passed away on Sunday at 87 years old. The seven-time major winner was one of golf’s most beloved figures, and the golf world took to social media upon hearing of his death to pay their respects to the King.

Thanks Arnold for your friendship, counsel and a lot of laughs. Your philanthropy and humility are part of your legend. It’s hard to imagine golf without you or anyone more important to the game than the King. A photo posted by Tiger Woods (@tigerwoods) on Sep 25, 2016 at 6:18pm PDT

RIP #arnoldpalmer. You changed the game with your charisma and personality. Every player, me included, should thank you for what you brought to our great game. You had this incredible ability to open the eyes of the world to the beauty of golf. You played with Presidents, celebrities and CEO’s. In doing so you opened the game to commercialization. For that I thank you. Our sport will always remember you. I will miss you. A photo posted by Greg Norman (@shark_gregnorman) on Sep 25, 2016 at 6:45pm PDT

The King at my first Masters this year. A man that has influenced my life in many ways. He was an incredible ambassador for the game but an even better person. Thank you for the great memories King. #makeitlegible #theking #rip #arniesarmy A photo posted by Bryson DeChambeau (@brysondechambeau) on Sep 25, 2016 at 6:19pm PDT

This man has been a true inspiration to so many people in this world including myself. I’ve had the honor of meeting him, and he’s an amazing person to go along with what he’s accomplished in his career on the course. So sad to hear he has passed, but he will always be remembered for the impact he has made in the world and the golf industry for his incredible talent and just the person he is. #RIP A photo posted by Lexi Thompson (@lexi) on Sep 25, 2016 at 6:14pm PDT

The thumbs up that everybody recognized, and will never forget... RIP to the person who has made everything the way it is today in the game of golf. The person who told me to sign my name so people can read it. The one who made a lemonade and Iced Tea a real drink. Was so lucky to play 2 Palmer Cups and meet Mr Palmer a few times, just can’t believe this day has come. You’re in a better place now, watch over us all! We will all miss you! #RIP #TheKing A photo posted by Justin Thomas (@justinthomas34) on Sep 25, 2016 at 7:32pm PDT

Those with the most skill in their sports so often fall short of that in their civility as a human being. Arnold Palmer was wholly original in that his accomplishments as an athlete were only exceeded by his comity as an individual. My favourite personal memory of Arnold at The 2015 Open where we were able to spend some quality time together. Thank you for the legacy you have left. A life to be proud of. #RIP #TheKing A photo posted by Justin Rose (@justinprose99) on Sep 26, 2016 at 1:17am PDT

What a man, what a golfer. Arnold was not only a great, great golfer, but also a man of enormous heart and generosity. He was also incredibly kind to young players, including me at the start of my career... There will never be another golfer like Arnold Palmer and the game of golf will miss him so much. His legacy, his record, his charitable spirit, will live on forever. RIP #TheKing A photo posted by Ernie Els (@ernieelsgolf) on Sep 26, 2016 at 7:26am PDT

New Years Day at the Bay Hill Shootout. It was easy to see Mr Palmers health was a concern and that would should cherish every moment we had left with him. What a special contribution he made to golf and the world. I have Mr Palmer to thank for my two beautiful healthy babies, delivered at The Winnie Palmer Hospital, and also for starting my love affair with Orlando at the 2005 @apinv. He will be dearly missed. #RIP #TheKing A photo posted by Graeme McDowell (@graeme_mcdowell) on Sep 26, 2016 at 8:19am PDT

RIP The King. Nobody set a better example and transcended the game I love like Mr. Palmer did in the history of the game. It was an honor to meet him and play well in two Palmer Cups for USA and GT golf. This letter he sent me after my first Professional win this summer will always be very special to me! It shows his constant support and his great example for golfs next generations. Thank you Mr. Palmer! #legend #TheKing A photo posted by Ollie Schniederjans (@ollie_gtgolf) on Sep 26, 2016 at 6:14am PDT

Mr Palmer gave his life to the game of golf, touched so many people and paved the way for all the opportunities in the game that we often take for granted. Not only only did he make the biggest impact in our game, he did it with swagger, style and a coolness that made him the legend he will always be. Mr Palmer, we all aspire to be like you, to love life & live it with no regrets. You will never be forgotten and always be the King #RIP A photo posted by lukedonald (@lukedonald) on Sep 26, 2016 at 6:58am PDT

Sometimes we don’t know how great a person is until we lose them. Arnold, however, was a living legend. Not only in the sport of golf, but also through the warmth of his heart. Everyone has their own little story with him. Mine is seeing his dedication first hand with the Palmers’ @winniehospital in Orlando and his support of my charity event last year. May his legacy and inspiration continue to shine. #rip #arnoldpalmer #legend A photo posted by @thesandragal on Sep 26, 2016 at 11:48am PDT
