ST. LOUIS — It might not have been at the top of Scottie Scheffler’s mind as he battled through sickness and navigated his way out of Bellerive’s bunkers, but he moved closer to being No. 1.
He’s already No. 1 in the world and topped the FedExCup points list, but he’s now roughly $600,000 shy of Tiger Woods’ PGA Tour career earnings mark.
Scheffler collected $426,250 in tying for 12th in St. Louis. He’s now at $120,390,661 in official PGA Tour money.
Tiger sits at $120,999,166. He’s held the top spot since Feb. 13, 2000.
Just last week, Scheffler, with his 8-shot win in Memphis, bumped Rory McIlroy from his perch at No. 2 on the all-time list.
Both players could actually be No. 1 after the playoff finale. The Tour Championship offers an official $40 million purse. The winner will get $10 million and solo second is worth $5 million. Scheffler would need roughly a 13th-place finish to surpass Woods.
McIlroy, who is at $117,848,372, could leap past Scheffler and Woods depending on how things shake out at East Lake.
