IRVING, Texas – Scottie Sheffler is a U.S. Junior Amateur champion and three-time Texas state champion, but the high school senior still understands a major benefit of competing in the Byron Nelson Championship this week.
“I’ve been doing everything I normally do, except going to school the past couple of days,” he said with a laugh.
Sheffler, who like Jordan Spieth before him will attend the University of Texas in the fall, would love to emulate Spieth’s early success as a teenager at this event.
“Obviously there is a little bit of pressure, but I’m trying to treat this like I would any other tournament with my preparation, and that’s really all I can do is just keep preparing the same way I have been.”
