PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Lydia Ko improvised nicely after realizing on the first green Thursday that she didn’t have a ball marker.
“I had to actually borrow a quarter from another caddie,” Ko said. “So that wasn’t a really good start.”
Ko opened the Wegmans LPGA Championship with a 2-under-par 70. She’s four shots off the lead.

“Two under to start a major is, I think, a pretty good start,” Ko said.
If Ko, 17, wins this week, she will become the youngest woman to win a major championship. She’ll also become the youngest player to ascend to No. 1 in the world rankings, as long as Stacy Lewis finishes worse than solo second place.
